Boris Johnson has been elected as the new Conservative leader and will become the next prime minister after beating Jeremy Hunt and taking 66% of the vote. In his victory speech, the former mayor of London said he would bring a new ‘can do’ spirit to the country. He will not take office formally until Wednesday afternoon after Theresa May’s final prime minister’s questions.
